Two families are suing the developer of Fortnite for failing to warn them of the addictive qualities of the hit American video game.
The value of Epic Games has soared to $15bn (£12bn) on the back of Fortnite, which has accrued more than 200m regular players since it launched two years ago.
The families of two children, age 10 and 15, filed a class action lawsuit this month in a Canadian court, claiming the game had hooked their children. The suit alleges that Epic “hired psychologists . . . to really dig into the human brain” to find ways of triggering neurotransmitters, in the manner of cocaine.
The World Health Organisation last year classified gaming disorder as a clinical condition, dividing mental health professionals.
